Drizzle

Okay, bet you thought that all you'd have to do is download some file, double click on it, and all would magically happen for you. Right? Well, in this case not only is that NOT how it's done, it almost makes Age Creation look like a snap!

You will have to download several things that will be used to make these conversions. IF you don't have them, I will post links for each one.

First will be the files for Drizzle, an open source project created by Dustin. Give him a big hand folks! Simply right click on the link below and save it in a spot you'll remember.

http://www.guildofmaintainers.org/ftp/Upload/AndyLegate/Zephyr_Cove/Drizzle.zip (dead link at 2008-06-09); use this one:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=224378

Once the file is done downloading, extract all the files by right clicking on it and clicking on "Extract All". Once that is done, leave them alone for now. Time to move on.

In order to use the Age files once they are converted, you will have to do a few things:

Rebuild the SUM files for each age. Briefly change the Pre-Sequence number of the Age. (optional) Use the ULM to put the Age on your Book shelf. (optional) Change the Pre-Sequence number of the Age back to it's original number.

PlasmaShop (and Python 2.2)

Oh, backing off now are we???   Don't worry, sounds harder than it really is. In order to do this though, you will need a program called PlasmaShop. Here is a link to download it:

'PLEASE NOTE:THIS LINK IS WACKED RIGHT NOW. CHECK BACK LATER http://www.guildofmaintainers.org/ftp/Upload/AndyLegate/Plasmashop/PlasmaShop-2.2.zip

Once you've downloaded PlasmaShop, leave it alone for a minute, because now you have to download something else so PlasmaShop will work right. It's called Python 2.2.3. Here is a link for Python 2.2.3: Right click on the link and save it to your computer.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS LINK IS WACKED RIGHT NOW. CHECK BACK LATER http://www.guildofmaintainers.org/ftp/Upload/AndyLegate/Plasmashop/Python-2.2.3.exe

Now that Python is done downloading, double click on it, and install it.

Once Python 2.2.3 is done being installed, it's time to install PlasmaShop. Right click on the file for PlasmaShop and extract all the files. Once you have done that, double click on the PlasmaShop.exe file to run the program, we are going to set it up now.

Setting Up PlasmaShop

This is taking forever, huh? Don't worry, there are some side benefits of doing all of this: You might decide to become a Writer. You'll need PlasmaShop for that. If you don't want to create Ages, but want to help make Journals, again, you'll need PlasmaShop to do this.

Who knows? You may even find a use for the other programs.......okay, back to work:

After you double click on the PlasmaShop file, it should give you a screen that looks a LOT like this:

Image:sortednow.png

Except you won't see all those little green snake like guys in yours for right now. First we have to set PlasmaShop up right. First, lets go to the top left hand corner of your screen and click on File. There should be a Drop box. In it you should see Options... click on that.

When you do, a box like this should appear:

Image:optiontabs.png

Click on the tab that says Python:

Image:pickpython.png

Now, your Python tab, all the boxes will be empty. You need to click on the button with the yellow folder next to the top empty box (the one marked Python 2.2 Interpreter) A directory tree will pop up. You need to take the tree to where your Python 2.2.3 install is and click on the Python.exe file (click only once). Once you've done that, click on the Save button at the bottom of the box.

Almost done.....

Now go to the top of your screen and click on where the menu says "Games"

Image:editgames.png

In the drop box, like you see in the picture, click on Edit Games.

Now your screen should look something like this:

Image:Addgame.png

Your big box will be empty for now. Let's fix that. Click on the button where my yellow arrow is pointing at: Add Game....

Now you should have this screen:

Image:pickgame.png

As you can see, the arrows help here. First, click in the top box and type something like Uru or Uru:CC, it's up to you. Next, click on the down arrow of the middle box. Pick the type of Uru install you have. Mine was Uru:CC. Last, click on the down arrow of the bottom box. Another box that is a directory tree will pop up, asking you to show it where your Uru is installed. Take it there.

That's it! PlasmaShop is now installed!

Okay.......let's go download some more stuff.........HEY! YOU IN THE BACK!!! YAH YOU, THAT'S RIGHT! I SAW YOU ROLLING YOUR EYES AT ME!!!!

Back to Downloading...will it end??

Actually yes.....and so will all this set up stuff. Eventually.

Okay, there are two ways to make the conversion.......one of them is already set up and all you do is double click on the file. A menu program GUI will pop up that looks a little confusing, but you can just go and select what Age you want to convert, tell it to do it, then just move the files around.

  • Pause*.....I can hear the crickets and see the wide eyes. I can also hear your thoughts:

"THEN WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING ALL THIS FOR?!?!?!?"

We are doing it this way because the other way you HAVE to have a D: hard drive. So unless you have a 2nd hard dive called D:\ or your one Hard drive partitioned, your gonna be up the creek.......with no paddles.........or canoe for that matter!!

This way is going to let us fix that, and it will also let you convert some Ages that were not put in like the MOUL version of K'veer!

Java Development Kit (JDK)

Okay, what we need to do now, is download the JDK (Java Development Kit). I found out that you have to have this the hard way. As you need to use something called Netbean, and it requires the JDK, so let's download and install that. Get that out of the way (NOTE: if you already have a JDK ver 1.5.0 or higher installed, you can skip this step!)

Here is the link for JDK:

https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jdk-6u10-beta-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer]JDK 6

The website is going to ask you what Platform you have. Now, I'm a moderate. Other people are Conservative....and some are Liberal.......

OH! Wait! They mean Computer platform!!!!

If you use Windows XP or Vista (32-bit), then just pick Windows. If you use the 64-bit version of Vista, pick Windows x64. If you're using something else, I can't help you!

Make sure you click on the little box that says you agree to the terms, and then it will download. This is about 66 MB, so it will take a few minutes to download. Once it has, run and install it. Once you are done installing JDK, we can move on.

Netbeans

Okay...all that downloading.....well cheer up. Only one more download, and you should be done. Here is a link to the web page that will allow you to download Netbeans.

http://download.netbeans.org/netbeans/6.0/final/

You'll need to pick your platform again, and pick a language. The button you want is the one that says "Java SE" (26 MB). I don't know if we need all the options, but it seemed better to have them just in case.

Once you have Netbeans downloaded, install it, and we will finally be ready to convert some Ages!
