Contest Rules
The theme of this RAD contest is small ages.
Entry Guidelines
Each entry must conform to the following guidelines:
- The age must be started from scratch - no reusing previous content.
- The explorable extents of the age must fit within a 200x200x200 cube, measured in Blender units.
- Note: the sky dome and other non-explorable scenery can lie outside this cube.
- All entries must conform to RAWA's Age Writing Guidelines.
- Ages can include any features that the latest PyPRP plug-in has to offer.
- Only one person can work on the age.
- You may request technical assistance, but you must ultimately produce all content yourself.
- You must obtain a unique sequence prefix for your age.
Scoring
Each age will be graded by the judging panel on a scale from 0 (non-existent or terribly broken) to 9 (absolute perfection). All scores will be whole numbers only, to avoid confusion. The scores will be in the following categories:
- Story: How well the age provides background information; includes puzzles and gameplay
- Note: this can be provided as a supplemental document to the age
- Visuals: The use of 3-D modeling, texturing and lighting for photographic realism while keeping a decent frame rate and load time
- Sounds: The appropriate use of ambient sounds, effects and music
- Dynamics: Use of animations, scripting, and physics to produce realistic interactions with the scene
- Overall: The impression of the age as a whole
Age Development Resources
You can use any Released Version you wish of either the Alcugs or GoW-PyPRP plug-ins. You can also use any tools you wish for completing your age, including hexadecimal editing of the files.
Many of the tools can be found here to help you in varying aspects of development.
You can, at your own risk, use the bleeding edge of the plug-in in subversion, but if you do, the plug-in developers will not help you should you become stuck.
Deadlines
You have until 23:59 GMT Friday 31 October 2008 (convert time) to register for this contest. It will begin Saturday 1 November and will end at 23:59 GMT Friday 21 November 2008 (convert time), 3 weeks later.
- If your age is not received by the end deadline, you will be disqualified.
- If you have submitted your age, but it causes URU to crash, you will be notified. Then you must immediately fix the problem and re-submit your age within 24 hours of notification, or you will be disqualified.
- If you wish to appeal your disqualification, post your appeal on the GoW forums, stating the reasons for your late submission. All RAD 3 judges will review the appeal, then vote whether to include your submission. The majority of the judges must vote yes for your submission to be included.
Soon thereafter, the ages will be made available for download via links on this page. The judges will have until 23:59 GMT Friday 28 November (convert time) to submit their scores (via email or PM) to Grogyan.
On the 29th the winner will be declared, and the score sheet below will be updated and will have the highest scoring age at the top.
Scores will be rounded to the nearest whole number when the overall score is calculated.
There will also be a separate page to view screen shots of all ages entered. A link to that page will be added here and on the RAD3 contest topic in the Guild of Writers forum as well as the Guild of Maintainers forum.
There will also be some comments from the judges, regarding the best aspects of the age and areas for improvement.
Submitting Your Age
Place all age files (plus any supplemental documents) in a ZIP file, and place it on a public server for download. Provide the URL to the ZIP file in the Downloads section of this page.
There is no need to submit your .blend file with your submission.
